Basic Facts About Medicinal Marijuana

Marijuana or cannabis is a herb processed to be used either as a medicine or as a psychoactive drug. When used as a medicine or a substance for herbal therapy, the part of this herb is referred to as medicinal marijuana. It has been used for this purpose for several thousand years. In fact, it belongs to the 50 fundamental herbs of traditional Chinese medicine, which played a major role in the development of today’s medicine.

Despite the known value of this drug, many discourage its use due to its fair share of disadvantages to health. The American Society of Addiction Medicine even claims that marijuana fails to meet the standard requirements for approved medicine. There have been many documented stories proving the negative effects of addiction to this drug.

However, it’s medicinal value cannot be dismissed. The extracts is proven useful in treating adrenal disease, migraines, fibromyalgia, and other chronic and related conditions. Restrictions on its use vary in each state, though most states have agencies that are authorized to produce it for medicinal purposes.

There are medical marijuana dispensaries established in virtually each state to supply marijuana to medical centers that require it for their patients’ treatment. Since growing marijuana anywhere else is illegal, citizens who need the medicine for treatment are instructed to go to these facilities. A marijuana dispensary system is used to limit the amount of marijuana being distributed.
